If you’ve been to any recent Flashforward conference you’ve been energized on the subject of Remix Culture, most recently by Lawrence Lessig at this year’s San Francisco event. Here are some recent news items from the remix front:

• Evan Roth at ni9e has published an “Explicit Content Only” version of NWA’s Straight Outta Compton. As Evan puts it, “Support the arts and enjoy curse words… HURRY, before I get my ‘cease and desist’!” Also check out his blog where he links to a video interpretation of one of the remixes! ;-)
• Nine Inch Nails have prepared a Garage Band version of a new track, specifically to enable remixing.
• Björk has been soliciting and coordinating remixes of her song “Army of Me” for some time; now a compilation of some of the best efforts is available on iTunes.

What have you remixed lately?

Lynda Weinman just let us know about this interesting opportunity for video artists: there will be a large-scale video installation space at a new terminal in LAX, and they’re soliciting propoosals for its use.

It sounds like they’ll be paying a $200 honorarium to each of a small set of prequalified candidates, and the winner(s) will get a $10-$20,ooo budget to build out the installation.
