Open Source Flash: state of the platform

SYS-CON ITALIA has published an excellent article by Jim Phelan: Open Source and the Flash Platform: What Should Adobe Do Next? It introduces and explores the current state of open source Flash, focusing on several particular projects currently garnering developer attention and on the role of OSFlash.org, the hub of the open source Flash community.

Adobe’s John Dowdell called his blog post on the subject “Open Source Action Items” and he notes:

I’m expecting the Adobe Developer Relations group will be in a bunch of meetings this month, getting acquainted, setting priorities, working within the larger Adobe Platform group — it would be a good time to evangelize changes.

John also suggests that if anyone in the Open Source Flash community has specific changes they would like him to focus on, he’s listening! Aral Balkan, creator of OSFlash.org, has already replied with his own thoughtful comments; be sure to join the conversation if you have anything to add.

Aral will be presenting a session on The Open Source Flash Revolution at Flashforward2006 Seattle; we’re very excited to hear his in-depth perspective on the state of the movement by then.

In addition to his tireless work on OSFlash, Aral is one of the best Flash teachers we know, and he will also be offering a full-day ActionScript workshop during our pre-conference workshop day.

Don’t miss it!
