Active Content Redux
A few weeks ago we reminded you that an update to Internet Explorer was coming that could change the way users interacted with certain Flash files and other “Active Content” on the web.
Now the IE patch has been released, and Adobe have responded with an official update to work around the problem when publishing HTML from within the Flash 8 IDE. There is a TechNote about this update, and more info about this and alternative solutions on Adobe’s Active Content Developer Center. (See yesterday’s post by Scott Fegette for more details.)
The update is officially for Flash 8 only but according to Luar, you can manually install the files in Flash MX 2004 and they’ll work.
We still favor the use of Geoff Stearns’ FlashObject SWFObject because it’s just so darn easy. And today Geoff linked to a Breeze presentation he gave about FlashObject SWFObject for the Minnesota Flash User’s Group, if you’d like a tour of how and why it works.
UPDATED April 21: Did we say FlashObject? We meant SWFObject. As of today, anyway…

a functional flash tool:
Save Flash allows to store likable flash-animations: flash games, flash cards, flash banners and cartoons. Save Flash shows: the size of the flash-file, the URL, the name of the file.
