Tuesday Morning Linkdump

A folder-full of Flash links, just for you…

  • If you haven’t been keeping up with Mike Chambers’ new Podcast, you should! New episodes were released on April 5, April 12 and April 26.
  • The buzz is that Flex 2.0 beta 3 is coming very soon… prepare yourself with the AS3 FAQ and AS3 Cheatsheets.
  • Macromedia.com is no more, but it’s really adobe.com that has been assimilated — powered by ColdFusion, based around updated templates and layouts that we have come to know and love. One interesting change is the menu: despite looking mostly like the old macromedia.com menu bar when at rest, upon rollover it turns out to be an HTML/CSS/JavaScript concoction (with vertical submenus) instead of the former Flash navbar. (As John Dowdell notes, one instant benefit of this is the ability to more easily open menu links in new tabs.) It’s always been interesting to deconstruct the Macromedia approach to a “hybrid” site, and that will be even more true for this new Adobe version. Update: David Hatch blogs about the process of merging the sites. He also introduced me to my new favorite phrase: Experiential Discontinuities.
  • Richard Leggett has a good roundup of the latest Flash on PSP news, including the addition of Flash content to the PSP portal on Newgrounds. Given that random surfing for PSP Flash content can be hit-or-miss, this is exactly what the PSP-Flash community needs: pre-tested content. Bring on the games!
  • ABC.com joins the list of sites choosing Flash 8 for video delivery — complete, high-resolution episodes of certain shows in this case. Request for version 2: a full-screen option so we can hook up to the TV.

Enjoy!
