Flash 9 Player and Flash Device Profiles updated

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

There’s a new public beta of Flash Player 9 — and as Tinic Uro points out, the version numbering scheme has gone from ‘b’ to ‘r’ which means we’re getting close!

As usual, this beta is not intended for Flex 2.0 beta 3 developers (keep using this one instead). It’s also not yet available for Macs with Intel processors — there’s a FAQ (pdf) if you want to read more about that.

Also released today, an update of the Flash Device Profiles including fixes for old devices and support for a bucket-full of new ones.

Go get ‘em!

Aral Discusses Flex Myths

Monday, June 5th, 2006

Aral Balkan notes an article in the latest Adobe Edge issue titled, “Flex 2: What’s in it for Flash Developers?” — it furthers the seemingly-endless task of clarifying where the two products stand in relation to one another and to the Flash platform as a whole.

Why are some people still confused on this point? Aral posits that certain myths about Flex persist from previous versions and how they were marketed, and goes on to detail each myth, the truth as he sees it, and provide some great commentary about how it all came to be.

While we’re discussing Aral, we forgot to formally note that his blog moved last month from its old home at flashant.org to the new-but-sensible aralbalkan.com. So update your bookmarks if you haven’t already.

If you’d like to spend even more time with Aral today, may we recommend this video interview we recently published? Aral is also rejoining us at Flashforward Austin as a speaker, this time to lead the Head Start: Flex 2 Workshop. So if you’re excited to join the conversation about Flash and Flex, come to the conference!
