Flashforward Setup Day!

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

rubber bracelets

The team arrived late last week, got things rolling yesterday, and today is setup day! Early attendee check-in runs from 6-8 pm, and speaker rehearsals start around the same time, so there is lots to do. Here are a few pictures of the setup activity.

We posted them on Flickr under the “flashforward” tag, and encourage everyone else to do the same with their shots* so we can collectively document this week-long party!

More setup pictures below…

* Note to daveyang: FITC is a different conference. Please re-tag about 200 of your pictures. Thanks.

Flashforward Schedule Suggestions

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

Flashforward2006 Austin begins this Monday, September 11! If you still aren’t sure which sessions to attend, we put together some ideas for you…

Remember that we don’t have tracks as such, and you don’t need to commit to your decisions in advance. But we do have a schedule-builder available for your convenience.

We also have the ability to highlight items on your schedule, much like a playlist from which you may pick and choose.

There are a few “Celebrity Playlists” — sessions chosen by our speakers — and we have now put together some additional playlists for you, organized loosely by topic. (But if a particular session doesn’t appear in any of these lists you should consider it a hidden gem!)

Each link takes you to the first day containing playlist items, but be sure to click through to subsequent days to see everything in the list.

Celebrity Playlists: Chris Georgenes, Grant Skinner, Aaron Simpson

Playlists by Topic:

Animation
Animators unite! From the basics of character design and drawing tools, to production for web and television.

Professional Flash: Workflow, RIAs, Accessibility
You’ve evolved beyond the one-man-band and now construct enterprise-caliber rich internet applications with a team of designers and developers. Here are some sessions that cover the issues you might encounter…

Art, Inspiration and Experimentation
Flash is the magic wand that unites your left and right brains, unleashing the programmer-artist within. Cutting-edge experimentation has always been what inspired and advanced the Flash community as a whole. If you want to see something new, or learn to make magic yourself, check these out…

Next-Gen: ActionScript 3, Flex 2, Flash 9, Apollo
If it ain’t alpha, it’s old news… this stuff is so cutting-edge, paramedics will be on-hand to stitch you up afterwards.

Pixel Pushing: Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Color, UI
Whether you’re new to Flash but immersed in Photoshop and Illustrator, or a Flash fan looking to improve your design fundamentals, learn about new tools and techniques here…

Video, Film and After Effects
Whether your work starts on tape and passes through After Effects on the way to Flash, or the other way around — check out Flash Video, Film and After Effects sessions here…

Pragmatic: Flash 8/ActionScript 2
Whether you’re learning Flash, teaching it, or need to finish the project that was due last week, consider solid topics like those below, which focus primarily on Flash 8 / ActionScript 2. Neither experimental nor niche, these are the skills you can use immediately…

Flash Lite: Smaller is Better
While some of us redesign our work for 1024×768, you’re planning for 240×320. While some of us swicth over to AS3, you’re excited to finally have most of AS2 to work with. Here are some sessions you might be interested in…
