Finetune Desktop: new Apollo release

finetune-full.png One of the first-generation Apollo applications I’ve been looking forward to ever since Ryan Stewart’s preview is Finetune Desktop, an Apollo-powered client to the Finetune social music service. It was released today!

Finetune Desktop joins the existing set of browser-based Flash clients, including a version optimized for use on the Wii or PS3, and demonstrates the ability for Flash developers to deploy their work in a variety of context-optimized situations while still sharing many core assets. (If you haven’t already, be sure to read Gabor Vida’s blog post about the new markets available thanks to Apollo.)

A couple tips from my own quick trial run:

On my MacBook, the Finetune Desktop always launches off the bottom of the screen; only the title bar of the window is visible, and must be dragged up to see the rest of the interface.

Also, I had associated all .html files with TextMate, and the links within Finetune Desktop that should take me to the web did not work. Changing the association back to Safari solved that problem.

Have fun, and be sure to actually listen to some songs, lest the application get frustrated with you!
