Networking at Flashforward2008

Kristin Henry at Underground-Flash.com posted an interesting article on the new single track format and how that will impact networking at the event. That’s something that has been on our mind here at Flashforward and we wanted to take the opportunity to respond.

Since networking is such a central part of most conference-goer’s experience at Flashforward, we’ve put a lot of focus there as we’ve created the event.

We’ve structured the day with long breaks from the main program and are excited to be offering a second “track” that will take place during these breaks. These sessions will be longer, more traditional breakout sessions for 75-100 people. Attendees will have options as to which to attend or to go hang out in the lunch room or lounge and recharging center.

Due to the restrictions at the Masonic, people will likely be required to take their stuff with them during the breaks so it is unlikely that people will be setting up camp. Slightly inconvenient, but to Kristin’s point, each block then becomes an opportunity to sit down next to someone new.

Since developers, designers, and business people will be together in one room for a majority of the conference, creating a common experience, we believe this will encourage cross-role networking.

Outside the main auditorium, our parties are going to be a highlight. At Yerba Buena, you’ll have a chance to skate, bowl, and visit the museum. The outdoor areas will be blocked off for Flashforward attendees only and there will be plenty of space to mingle and talk if your skills on the ice leave something to be desired.

We’ve made an effort to make this year’s conference different and we’re excited about what is in store.

See you in San Francisco,

Jeremy
